EDER 619.07 - Site Based Decision Making

Dr. D. Yee

Course Description:
This course is designed to assist students to gain an understanding of the nature of site based decision making (SBDM) and school based management (SBM) and to examine why and how SBDM and SBM have become primary vehicles of school reform efforts within the rapidly changing context of public schooling.

Before developing their own SBDM model, students will explore the major issues currently challenging educational administrators and will examine how SBDM is used as a framework for dealing with these issues. An emphasis will be placed on becoming aware of the assumptions and values underlying education policies at the various levels of the education system.

A second objective is to engage students in the process of active online inquiry and debate--through class presentations, development of their own models of SBM, and culminating with a collaborative effort to develop a set of common SBM policies and guidelines.
