Welcome to A Student's Guide to Online Learning. This seven module course is designed for students who have a familiarity with Internet concepts and usage. These modules are intended to make the learner aware of the skills necessary to succeed in online learning. Topics to be covered include: technologies used in online learning, time management, participating in the online community, and effective communication techniques.

  • Demonstrate the efficient use of various communications mediums used in distance education such as email, discussion groups, chat, and BLOGs.
  • List the advantages and disadvantages of distance education
  • Participate in an online mediate community as both a participant and moderator
  • Employ time and self-management strategies to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Discuss the most common technologies used in online learning
  • Conduct research at a distance using web searches, journals, and library resources
  • Discuss the future of distance education
