Lesson 6 Facilitating Online

Objective Facilitate an Online Mediated Discussion

Overview

Online facilitating leadership is different from face to face leadership. Facilitating leadership is done asynchronously or synchronously. Both have different pedagogical strategies and design. However, both try to extend the learning of the class material as well as to encourage active collaboration in the class.

As an online facilitator, you must first identify the learning objective for the discussion topic. You must then gently guide the tone of the discussion toward the intended learning outcome. This can involve techniques such as private discussion feedback, posing additional questions, or praising postings that demonstrate a good train of thought.
