Lesson 2 Searching the Web

Objective Search the web for information

Search

The Internet contains a wealth of information. The problem is how do we retrieve it. There are many kinds of research tools, but the decision of when to use it is critical in what you find. Some of the points you need to consider are:

  • What is your research question?
  • What kind of information do you need?
  • What tools are you going to use to find this information?
i.e. the Internet, the school library
  • How are you going to find this information?
i.e. if you are using Internet search engines, what keywords
    are you going to use?
  • How much time are you going to spend researching?
i.e. You could go on forever finding information, but you
shouldn't. What would be a reasonable time frame for
    finding the information you need?
  • How are you going to evaluate your information?
