Course Description:
Telecommunication in Education will explore the issues, technologies, methods, and consequences related to the rapidly changing world of distributed learning and teaching. The course will review the origins and history of distance education, analyze the effectiveness of early technologies and then concentrate on current distributed education mediums and methods.
 
Purpose of this Electronic Portfolio
A professional portfolio is "an organized collection of complex, performance based evidence that indicates one's growth, goals, and current knowledge and skills needed to be competent in a role or area of expertise" (Campbell, Melenyzer, Nettles, and Wyman, 2000, p151).

The purpose for an electronic portfolio are:
  1. a portfolio reveals an indepth look at our unique professional accomplishments
  2. a portfolio reveals our professional growth and development
  3. a portfolio gives us the opportunity to use reflection, a practice that makes us improve
(Heath, 2002, p20)

An electronic portfolio should answer these three questions:
  1. collection and selection - What did I do?
  2. reflection - What did I learn?
  3. projection - What will I do next?
(Van Wagenen and Hibbard, 1998)
